It seemed like a comedy of errors, with no one to blame, that created a few days of confusion over free parking on Queen Street.

It has for years been free for the month of December, but typically, the Chamber of Commerce asks the Town and the Town institutes the policy and marks the meters.

That didn’t happen this year, and there was a lot of “misinformation and confusion,” said Coun. Allan Bisback Monday.

By Dec. 5, the chamber had sent a letter to the Town requesting free parking in the Old Town.

Throughout the confusion, said Bisback, “zero tickets have been issued.”

Lord Mayor Betty Disero said the process of instituting free parking has been different every year, and that it was “nobody’s fault” that it didn’t happen this year.

Council voted to institute free parking until the end of the month, and to make sure there is a discussion about it in October next year in plenty of time for a decision by December.
