Chamber of Commerce presents Spirit of Niagara

The Chamber of Commerce Chair’s Award was given to NOTL Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services, recognizing the value of their support and comfort to the community. The Spirit of Niagara awards were handed out at the Ravine Vineyard conference centre March 10.(Photos by Penny Coles)

  • Leigh Atherton and David Watt of the Garrison House won the Celia Liu Award for Excellence in Hospitality, for their outstanding commitment to delivering excellence, with a positive, unifying influence on the community. Liu, a friend to many in the business community, passed away in 2014, leaving memories of an amazing human being, fully dedicated to sharing the joy she experienced in daily life.
  • Tim Jennings, executive director of the Shaw Festival, presented the Christopher Newton Award of Extraordinary Vision in Business to the Wayne Gretzky Estate Winery, accepted by winemaker Scott McGregor. Newton is a former artistic director of the Shaw.
  • The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre received the Community Leadership Award. Gail Kerr accepted the award on behalf of Lise Andreana, and the Pumphouse, presented by Coun. Wendy Cheropita.

Alex Harber celebrates with his brother Paul Harber of Ravine Vineyard, who won the Peter Ling Entrepreneur of the Year Award, for initiative and innovation in a business venture or project. The award is in memory of long-time chamber board member Peter Ling, for his generosity to the chamber and the community. The Spirit of Niagara ceremony was held at Ravine in its new conference centre.
