Letter: Queen Street in need of sprucing up

Hopefully this will reach all the landlords and store owners on Queen Street, the main street of what was once voted The Prettiest Town in Canada.

Hopefully this will reach all the landlords and store owners on Queen Street, the main street of what was once voted The Prettiest Town in Canada.

Please take the time to walk up and down this gracious street and look carefully at the poor condition of the paint work on the storefronts on almost all of these beautiful heritage buildings. At least 90 per cent are in dire need of help.

Obviously times are tougher than ever, but Niagara-on-the-Lake will flourish again, as it did after the SARS virus.

Visitors will return and when they do, they should leave impressed, not just by the beautiful flowers but with the clean, well-maintained buildings and stores, in which the owners take obvious pride. They must not leave with the impression that our best days are now behind us.

It’s an old expression, but it still holds true . . . “You only get one chance to make a good first impression.”
