This week on Looking Up, I look at the week of June18 through June 24, including the summer solstice on Saturday, June 20, and the new Moon in Cancer on Sunday, June 21.

Now to the week ahead:

Thursday, June 18 sees Mercury turn retrograde just past midnight at 14 degrees of Cancer and stay retrograde until July 12, at five degrees Cancer. During this short, emotional few weeks it would be best if you could spend time reviewing family matters and things concerning your home. Mars in Pisces gets a positive bump from Pluto in Capricorn this evening. It’s a good time for improvements in bone health, and getting healthier and stronger feet. On June 18,1991, Vancouver’s Bryan Adam’s song, Everything I Do, was released. It was Billboard’s Song of the Year for 1991.

Friday, June 19: Today, the Moon and retrograde Venus connect in Gemini bringing opportunities to review feelings about relationships and feelings about money. On this day in 1964, British Prime Minister Boris Johnston was born in New York City.

Saturday, June 20: It’s the start of summer, with the summer solstice at 5:43 p.m. as the Sun appears to cross the equator and bring on fall and winter in the northern hemisphere. Mars in Pisces and Jupiter in Capricorn give each other a helping hand – continuing the positive health improvements from Thursday. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys is 78 today, and Nicole Kidman celebrates #53.

Sunday, June 21: Today is the new Moon in her home sign in Cancer. It’s also the Annular Solar Eclipse at 2:41 a.m. The annular phase of this solar eclipse visible from parts of Africa, including the Central African Republic, Congo, and Ethiopia; south of Pakistan and northern India; and China. Weather permitting, people in these areas will see the characteristic ring of fire. North America will not see the eclipse, but it will affect our values and bring a surprise in three days’ time. The new Moon always signals the start of new beginnings, and this one promises new beginnings with home and family and values. Make a list of what you want. Figure out how to make these things happen. On this day in 1788 the U.S. Constitution comes into effect when New Hampshire is the ninth state to ratify it.

Monday, June 22: The Moon in Cancer makes five connections, including a conjunction with Mercury and oppositions to Jupiter and Pluto. Be aware that sensitive feelings can work for you and also against you.

Tuesday, June 23: Today Neptune joins Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn by turning to Retrograde motion. This means one more planet engaged in review. When these planets all turn direct, big, positive changes will start to be seen. On June 23, 1888, Frederick Douglass became the first African American to be nominated for U.S. president.

Wednesday, June 24: As the Moon moves from Cancer to Leo early in the day, we get a mixed bag of influences including upsets, healings and imaginative insights into the past and the future. In 1916, Toronto’s Mary Pickford became the first movie star to receive a million dollar contract.
