Welcome to Auchterlonie on Astrology, a look at the week of Oct.1, with the full Moon in Aries to start the month.

On my podcast you can also hear about Mars retrograde in Aries – The Hero’s Journey courtesy of our friends at AstroButterfly.

Now, the week:

Thursday, Oct. 1: The full Moon at 5:05 a.m. is powerfully important. In ancient times, when the calendar was moon-based, this was the New Year. With Mars nearby today, retrograde in Aries, opposite the Sun, it’s a full Moon and full Mars kind of New Year! Emotions will be fiery and it’s every man, woman and child for him/herself. Still, this is accompanied by the Sun in Libra, seeking peace and harmony just as determinedly. Today the Energizer Bunny of U.S. presidents celebrates his 96th birthday. It was Oct. 1, 1924 that Jimmy Carter was born in Plains, Georgia. While he lasted only one term, respect for him has grown every year since.

Friday, Oct 2: After the power struggle of yesterday, today we see Venus move from flashy Leo into elegant Virgo – a complete 180 in terms of style. And with Mars and the Moon in the same place in the sky in Aries, it’s a magical end to the  week where physical love is generously expressed.  And it was on Oct. 2, 1535 that Jacques Carter discovered Montreal. He called it Mount Royal. Previously it was known as Hochelaga.

Saturday, Oct 3: Start your weekend with some tension as the Moon and Saturn have a discrepancy of opinion. Pay attention to what really matters and is truthful. Saturn likely wins this showdown, making your life more secure. Today is the birthday of one of Canada’s best-known actors. Born in Guelph in 1973, Neve Campbell turns 47 today.

Sunday, Oct 4: Pluto has appeared to move backward since April. Today it turns to direct motion until next April when it turns retrograde again. It has been playing with our willpower, holding us back. Now a lot of pent-up energy will be available to finally get the things done that you want done. Check where Pluto is in your natal chart for more information. The calendar designed by Julius Cesar lasted over 1,600 years, but was replaced on Oct. 4, 1582, when Pope Gregory introduced his Gregorian Calendar, which we still use today.

Monday, Oct. 5: It’s a serious start  to the week with lots of practical drive to get things done. Done properly. Incredibly, a strong hurricane known as the Saxby Gale devastated the Bay of Fundy on Oct 5, 1869. Stephen Saxby, a British naval officer predicted the storm 10 months earlier in December, 1868, using astronomy (astrology).

Tuesday, Oct. 6: Having spent the last 2-plus days in Taurus, the Moon moves on to lively Gemini just past midnight. But the more constructive news today is courtesy of friendly Mars, making energy available for a karmic project that is good. And it was Oct 6, 1769 that Isaac Brock was born in St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

Wednesday, Oct 7: Mercury in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus, creating  at least a little confusion. At most it’s positive confusion that sorts out a long-standing problem. And it was Oct 7, 1979 that Frank Mahovlich retired from the NHL, after a brief comeback attempt with the Detroit Red Wings.

And that’s Auchterlonie on Astrology for this week. Next week it’s the third quarter Moon in in Cancer, on Friday, Oct 9. And on Part 2 it’s Mars retrograde in Aries – The Hero’s Journey.

Until then, shine on!
