Scope of work/Position Summary:
Big Brothers Big Sisters Sault Ste. Marie is a leader in offering quality mentoring programs for children and youth within the community. The Caseworker will perform duties as it relates to the programs of our agency in accordance with the National Standards of service delivery as required by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Caseworker will be responsible for matching and monitoring bigs and littles in our community based mentor program. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing group based programs and activities for those waiting to be matched.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Accept, review applications from all potential volunteers, parents/caregivers/referral agencies
• Conduct onboarding process, including pre-screening, interviewing and orientation
• Process all required documents and Vulnerable Sector checks
• Deliver required Safety and Pre-Match Training
• Maintain all case notes as required for compliance
• Respond to any issues or other communications with bigs and littles
• Communicate regularly throughout the match with volunteer/parent/caregiver/agency
• Keep all parties informed of agency events and promotions
• Maintain case notes on files within caseload assigned to position
• Conduct any match closure, in accordance with National Standards
• Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in agency Privacy and Confidentiality Policy
• Complete Match Support Framework – mandatory match check-ins and updates
• Screen and on board new volunteers and new littles for group-based programs
• Create, plan, coordinate and execute 1-2 agency wide events per year
• Plan, coordinate and execute activities and programs for children and youth within agency
• Assist with agency marketing and publicity as required, promote mentorship programs
• Oversee Big Bunch Program, as well as, supporting new programs/activities
• Complete year at a glance plan for activities/events, record stats and complete summaries
• Assist Program Manager with volunteer recruitment, appreciation, engagement and support
• Support agency initiatives, community engagement, growth and development
• Other duties as required
Qualifications/Experience:
• College Diploma or University Degree in Education, Social or Human Services disciplines, such as Child & Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Education
• Experience with casework, managing a caseload and assisting clients accessing services an asset
• Minimum 2 years experience coordinating programs and services for children and youth
• Strong organizational skills, event planning experience, able to plan, coordinate events/activities
• Effective oral and written communication skills, experience writing casenotes and reports
• Excellent administrative skills, proficient computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office 365
• Strong problem skills, ability to work independently, think creatively and resourceful
• Knowledge of volunteer resources, experience and understanding of not for profit sector
• Must be able to multitask, manage workload with competing deadlines
• Ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
• Passion for ensuring health and wellness of children and youth within our community
Requirements:
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License with access to a vehicle
• Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends (if and when needed)
• Successful completion of Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
