LETTER: We must do more to protect our wildlife living among us

Warning signs for crossings are essential - and should not be ignored

Niagara-on-the-Lake Local received the following letter about wildlife crossing roads.

Truly a blessed sight to see. I was heading into town via Niagara Stone and approaching 'the dip' only to come across a half a dozen deer crossing towards the Old Winery Restaurant. Six! Quite a sight to see just around 11 at night. It did strike me though ... Was there a wildlife crossing sign? I didn't think I saw one.

Indeed, there is a wildlife crossing while leaving Old Town just before 'the dip' yet no such sign is posted while heading into town.

Since Stone Eagle began construction and tore out the small copse by Hunter Road, the deer seem to be crossing at 'the dip' more frequently. The bottom of 'the dip' is far more obstructed when heading in from the highway. Wildlife crossing signs are important, if not often ignored. It only is logical that there is signage in both directions.
