PelhamToday received the following Letter to the Editor from reader, Susan Howard-Azzeh.
Niagara Regional Council's behaviour last night breaks my heart.
Yet again Palestinians are silenced, while suffering the loss of 25,000-plus Palestinians to Israeli bombs manufactured in the USA and Canada. At least one Canadian Palestinian in the chamber audience was crying.
Pelham Mayor Marvin Junkin told PelhamToday that he voted against the Bateman motion because it was "way outside the wheelhouse of Regional Council." Yet he voted to support Ukraine and Israel and the lighting of regional headquarters in the colours of the Israeli flag. Is this hypocrisy, cowardice or anti-Palestinian racism?
I can't comprehend it. If he is afraid of being called an anti-semite he needs to understand Judaism and Zionism are two completely different things.
Two delegates last night, included Jason, a young Jewish activist and Rabbi David Mivisair, who are both non-Zionist, could have explained the difference if they were not so rudely dismissed.
Susan Howard-Azzeh,
