Crew begins clean-up of lawn bowling green

Long-needed abatement of a growing mould problem has begun

A crew hired by the Town has begun cleaning the surface of the NOTL Lawn Bowling Club's bowling green by power washing it. Work started last Friday, just a day before the club held its annual registration day at their room at the NOTL Community Centre. Club past president Paul McHoull said because of the work being done, club members were not able to bowl on registration day, an annual tradition for them.

For several years club members have been dealing with growing large brown spots on the synthetic surface. Those spots tend to get slimy and slippery, especially following a rainstorm. It's a mould problem that has been getting worse the longer it was left untreated. McHoull affirms that the green needs to be fully replaced some time in the near future.

Work on cleaning the mould up continued into this week. McHoull is hoping that members can get onto the green for the first time this Saturday.

The lawn bowling club is scheduled to hold their official ceremonial opening with  Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa on Saturday May 11.
