Fundraiser for animal rescue comes at a difficult time of year

Tanya Rice is once again holding a fundraiser at her home to help out animal rescue groups at a difficult time of year.

The two-day event held at her Line 2 home did well last Saturday, and will be repeated this Saturday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 456 Line 2, behind Crossroads School, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is her fifth annual  Christmas floral and bake sale in support of animal rescue, she said, with proceeds donated to charitable partners, including Rebel Dog Rescue and the The Niagara Spay Neuter Assistance Program.

The majority of rescue groups do not allow adoptions for Christmas as a pet is a life-long family member, not a Christmas present, said Rice. “Therefore foster homes and rescues centres require additional assistance from the public this time of year.”

Custom Christmas porch planters, wreaths, door swags and hanging baskets, priced from $30 to $100, will be available, along with “inspired seasonal baked goods,” she said in a news release, assorted homemade jams and jellies, and canned pickles.

Working with organizer Carolyn Greenfield, she is also hoping to fill a donation barrel that will be at her Line 2 home, and the rescue groups she supports have made particular requests.

Rebel Dog Rescue is asking for salmon-flavoured products, dry or canned.

The Niagara Spay Neuter Assistance Program, which will be receiving assistance from the fundraiser, is asking for Fancy Feast adult or kitten pate, and kitty litter.

NOTL Cats would like Performatrin adult or kitten kibble, or Fancy Feast adult or kitten pate.
