The professional pickleball players wowed a crowd of almost 400 spectators at Meridian Credit Union Arena Friday night to kick off the NOTL Pickleball Classic.

The team of Christina Chin, Mark Cleminson, and local players Adam Eatock from Niagara-on-the-Lake and Reese George from Welland took the $2,000 prize by a cumulative score of 61-41 over the white team..

George, a 23-year-old member of the NOTL Pickleball Club, was amazed with the turnout and the way the crowd got behind her de facto home-town team during the four matches. Organizer and NOTL club president John Hindle was elated not just with the crowd but the way the eight professionals displayed all the right things to do in a pickleball match.

"I'm sure a lot of our club members will use some of what they learned tonight in their own matches tomorrow and Sunday," Hindle told The Local.
