A news release from the town was sent out Wednesday afternoon after a closed session special council meeting Monday, March 20.

The agenda for the closed meeting was to discuss "personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees, specifically regarding personal matters about an identifiable individual relating to interactions with council member(s)."

After the closed session, a report was read in public and voted on that said the Integrity Commissioner and the OPP would be notified.

“Niagara-on-the-Lake town council was informed of a matter involving a third party’s interaction with a member of council that warranted investigation,” Wednesday's news release says.

Town council directed CAO Marnie Cluckie “to bring the matter to the attention of the Integrity Commissioner and to notify police. Both steps were taken immediately.”

“The work of the Integrity Commissioner and the police are important investigative processes that need to be carried out in a professional and confidential manner,” the news release continues.

“The town will respect the investigative processes, assisting and supporting any reviews and investigations to the best of its ability.”
