The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is excited to announce the launch of a new summary page on its Strategic Plan dashboard, offering residents an accessible and high-level view of the progress and achievements of Council's 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.
"As we reach the midpoint of our council term, I'm incredibly proud of the progress we've made," said Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. "Town staff have been pivotal in advancing council's strategic objectives and ensuring transparency through the Strategic Plan Dashboard. I look forward to seeing continued progress as we work towards completing our strategic goals."
The new summary page reveals that the Strategic Plan is on track, with 58 per cent of initiatives completed, meeting or exceeding targets as of March 2024. Below are a few key milestones that highlight the Town’s ongoing advancement of strategic objectives:
- Nine heritage designations are currently underway.
- An economic development officer has been hired and is working to help attract and retain businesses.
- For the eleventh year straight, the Town’s 2023 annual financial report has been awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
- Two new positions were approved in the 2024 budget, which will greatly impact the success of the Enrich Community Assets, Environment, & Infrastructure Pillar: An asset management coordinator and a climate change coordinator will soon be hired.
- A new service delivery database was rolled out in January, which streamlined the Town’s service delivery process.
"With the introduction of this summary page, we're inviting residents to explore a more streamlined and accessible view of the Town's progress," stated CAO Bruce Zvaniga. "It's an opportunity for everyone to stay informed and witness the positive steps Town Council and Staff are taking toward our shared goals."
The Strategic Plan Dashboard is more than just a collection of statistics; it shares the ongoing story of the Town's progress, highlighting significant achievements, challenges, and future priorities. It serves as a transparent tool for both council and the community to track Niagara-on-the-Lake's journey toward its vision. The dashboard will be updated again at the end of the year.
Council and staff are celebrating successes while actively addressing challenges, ensuring projects that need additional focus receive the necessary attention to meet the Strategic Plan's goals by 2027.
