Ricky Rap: NOTL has always revolved around 'community'

Memories of growing up on Castlereagh St. remind Rick Mills that life is largely about finding your community

Ricky Rap is a list of 10 thoughts and offerings from Niagara’s own Rick Mills. Retired from more than 30 years of management in the steel industry, he continues pastoral ministry here in town. Ricky Rap, he says, is intended to help us to believe in and laugh at ourselves.

1. I was raised in one house.

2. On our street alone, Castlereagh St., there were 7 houses, totalling 39 kids.

3. Those 7 houses still exist, different owners - no kids.

4. On Wednesday of last week I joined childhood neighbour, Chris Bjorgan, for his St. Marks church's monthly communion and breakfast.

5. The very church I was raised in as a child.

6. Our town always revolved around community.

7. There is a proverb that reads, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

8. Sounds like a good definition of community.

9. Life is finding yours.

10. Being yours.
