Saldana strikes out 12 to lead Jackfish over Cardinals

HAMILTON - Enrique Saldana had his best outing of the 2014 Intercounty Baseball League campaign, to lead the Welland Jackfish to an 11-0 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Friday.
The right-handed pitcher struck out 12 and allowed only two hits in seven innings of work.
Robert Mullen swung the big stick for the Jackfish with five RBI thanks to a two-run homer in the third inning and a three-run double in the fourth.
Gianfranco Morello and Greyson Barrett also hit doubles for the defending champs.
Brandon Nicholson and Brendon Daley had the lone hits for the Cards.
The win extends the Jackfish (14-3) win streak to 11 games and hope to continue to roll on Saturday at home against the Barrie Baycats at 6:05pm.
The Cardinals (9-8) are on the road Saturday against the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m.

Majors blank Royals
LONDON - Kaiden Cardoso provided the fireworks, and Victor Payano was cool and steady on the mound as the London Majors defeated the Guelph Royals 8-0 Friday during Intercounty Baseball League action.
Payano earned his second win in a row thanks to a two-hit gem that saw him strike out seven Royals batters.
Rhys Montgomery went the distance in a losing effort.
Cardoso had a solo homerun, while Starling Joseph had two RBI.
Josh Garton and Jaozef Del Rosario had the only Royals hits.
The Majors (12-5) are only two games back of the front-running Welland Jackfish, and are back in action Sunday at 2 p.m. on the road against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Royals (9-6) host the Kitchener Panthers Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Panthers pounce on Sox
BRANTFORD - The Kitchener Panthers offence pounced all over the Brantford Red Sox in a 12-3 win on the road Friday during Intercounty Baseball League action.
The Panthers pounded out 18 hits, scoring three runs in the fifth and eighth inning.
Raul Gonzalez led the way with four hits, including a double, to accompany three RBI. Spencer Ross also had a double during a three-hit night, capped with three RBI.
Nick Burdett had a double and two RBI, while David Alvarez hit a double.
Dakota Parsons earned the win on the mound and gave up only two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts.
Josh Laukkanen was tagged with the loss.
The Panthers improve to 4-14 and travel to Guelph on Saturday to take on the Royals at 7:30 p.m. The Red Sox (6-11) hit the road Sunday to take on the Barrie Baycats at 3:05 p.m.
