It is with great sadness that the family of Peggy announce her passing on Friday, December 6, 2024 in the city of St. Catharines at 60 years of age.

Peggy was born in Grimsby on February 20, 1964 to Hans Ladage and Elizabeth Tunnacliffe (née Sutherland), and is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Christopher and Peter.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jack, her daughters, Sarah (Graeme) and Haleigh (Oliver), and her grandchildren, Madeleine, Benjamin, Charlotte, Georgiana, Tilda, Margarete, Matteo and Livia.

Peggy’s life and career were characterized by variety, which aligned well with the dynamic woman she was.  She worked both in early child development and administration and was exceptionally proud of her administrative roles with the Mennonite Foundation of Canada (now Abundance Canada) and Mennonite Central Committee.  Her compassion and commitment to detail allowed her to excel in both fields and she fully enjoyed the time she shared with her coworkers.

While Peggy did battle ovarian cancer for more than a decade, she did not let it define her story.  Instead, she chose to turn her experience into advocacy, participating in McMaster University’s Survivors Teaching Students Program, as well as the Patient Partners in Research program with Ovarian Cancer Canada.  She lobbied for improved research funding on local and provincial levels and acted as a peer mentor for other women on their own cancer journeys.  It was due to these efforts that she was awarded the Peggy Truscott Award of Hope from Ovarian Cancer Canada in 2023.

Those who knew Peggy will remember her for her inquisitive nature, her bright laughter and quick sense of humour.  She was deeply devoted to her family and committed to the wellbeing of her church.  Peggy loved participating in her church as a volunteer as well as worshipping to the music that made her feel most connected to God.  Those who loved her will miss the quiet click of her knitting needles, the smell of her cooking, the fierce competition of a card game against her and the steady reassurance of her presence.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Bethany Community Church, 1388 Third St Louth, St. Catharines.  A Celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Community Church.

Memorial donations to Ovarian Cancer Canada or Hospice Niagara would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144.  Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
