Passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2024 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Martina (nee van Berlo) for 63 wonderful years. Aaron was the loving father of the late Martha (the late John), Ronald (Heather), Carolyne (Kevin), and Kenny (Sue). Cherished grandpa to Aaron (Tamara), Colton, Scott (Sarah), Taylor (Ethan), Dylan, and Hailey (Boyd), and proud great-grandpa to Aydin, Tristan, and Logan. Much loved by special family friend Sue. Aaron will be lovingly remembered by Sondra. He will also be missed by many members of the van Berlo family. Predeceased by his mother, Rosamunde Rumsey (1966).
Aaron’s passion for cars began at a young age and stayed with him throughout his life. A classic car enthusiast, he was affectionately known as the cool guy who drove cool cars. He loved attending car shows and spending countless hours in his garage. Known by his CB radio handle "Suitcase" during his years as a trucker, Aaron spent many years of his life on the road. Aaron was a familiar face at V.C. White's Auto Services, enjoying the camaraderie of friends who shared his interests during their weekly coffee hangouts. In addition to his love for cars, Aaron was a proud Harley Davidson owner, which added to his reputation as a man with an eye for stylish rides.
Aaron’s charismatic nature and sense of humour left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was loved by everyone. As a volunteer firefighter in Niagara-on-the-Lake, he gave back to his community with the same generosity that defined his life. His garage was a hub of friendship, where an open garage door meant an open invitation to grab a beer (with his preference always being a warm OV beer!), share a story, and stay all day. Aaron also enjoyed travelling, and he and Martina were avid snowbirds, often escaping the Canadian winters to enjoy Florida sunshine.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the incredible caregivers from ParaMed, especially Helen and Paul, and to their close friend and nurse Colleen, their "special angel," who went above and beyond to support them. Your compassion and care will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Aaron’s life will be held at Caroline Cellars, 1010 Line 2 Rd #358, Virgil, on Sunday, December 29th from 2-5 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Niagara. Online condolences may be shared on Aaron's tribute page at EssentialsNiagara.com
