Lost in Austen (Britbox, 2008; four episodes) is a wonderful twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The limited series, originally aired on the ITV network, finds a disillusioned modern working girl, Amanda Price (Jemima Rooper), swap her life for Austen's celebrated heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, by travelling through a portal in her bathroom. She must try to fit in with the Bennets, Bingleys and Darcys while at the same time attempting to ensure that the classic novel progresses as it should. There are many twists and turns as the story unfolds, but - SPOILER ALERT - it all works out in the end. A charming production in every way.
