Aggressive driving behind a police car leads to drug trafficking charges

A pair from Fort Erie were held in custody and were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday

On March 6, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) members assigned to 5 District (Fort Erie/Ridgeway) were operating an unmarked police vehicle when they were aggressively followed by a member of the public.

The incident ended when a traffic stop was initiated by a marked police vehicle resulting in the driver and passenger of the vehicle being arrested. As a result, the occupants were searched incident to arrest and the following was discovered:

  • 21.3 grams of suspected cocaine (value $2,550)
  • 11.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine (value $1,180)
  • 68.1 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine (value $4,767)
  • 7.5 grams of suspected fentanyl (value $1,500)
  • 68 tablets of suspected oxycodone (value $680)

Shane Moore, 41, of Fort Erie was charged with the following criminal offences:

  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – oxycodone
  • stunting (Highway Traffic Act)

Moore faces several additional Highway Traffic Act offences.

Jody McNab, 40, of Fort Erie was charged with the following criminal offences:

  • mischief under $5,000
  • possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine
  • possession for the purpose of trafficking – oxycodone
  • having liquor in an open container in an unauthorized place (Liquor Licence and Control Act)

Moore and McNab were held in custody and scheduled to attend the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines on March 6.
