Teen dies at hospital following bicycle collision in St. Catharines

On July 23 at 6:48 p.m., 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to reports of a serious collision in St. Catharines. 

Officers arrived on scene in the area of Glendale Avenue and Glengarry Road. The initial investigation determined that a 16-year-old male (St. Catharines) cyclist and a 2020 black Lincoln Aviator had collided.

Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics were assisted by St. Catharines Fire Service personnel in treating the 16-year-old male who was found to be in critical condition on scene. The male was transported to an out of region hospital for further care but died in hospital. The 45-year-old female (St. Catharines) driver of the Lincoln Aviator was not physically injured.

Roads in the area were closed for the investigation and reopened at approximately 2:56 a.m. 

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have been called in to investigate and determine the cause and circumstances leading up to the collision. They are being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.
