DeKorte’s Landscaping Ltd, a family-owned and operated business, is celebrating its 40th year of service in the Niagara Region. From practical pathways and traditional gardens, to high end creative and functional outdoor spaces, DeKorte’s Landscaping continues to expand its presence throughout the Niagara Region and enhance homeowners’ lifestyles by extending the living space and value of their home.

The company was founded in 1984 by Jack DeKorte Sr. in Fenwick, Ontario. The growing company was taken over by two of his sons, Eric and Jack DeKorte Jr. as they teamed up to advance the company in design and construction. “It’s interesting to see the changes in what landscaping was and where it’s come from. Now it involves creating elements like outdoor kitchens, entertainment spaces, and covered three season spaces. It's all about functionality.” states owner Eric DeKorte.

The skilled team at DeKorte’s has been key to its success in providing quality landscapes over the last four decades. Eric elaborates on this: “We couldn’t do this without our dedicated team; from designers, project managers, foremen, truck drivers, equipment operators, and general labourers. I really do think we have an amazing culture here, reflected in the number of positive comments we receive from our customers.”

DeKorte’s Landscaping specializes in designing and building landscapes providing a wide range of functionality. The unique lifestyle of each homeowner is reflected through a design tailored to their needs and wants– whether it be a pergola by the pool, a garden shed, or a covered structure that includes a kitchen and fireplace. Interlocking paved driveways and walkways that enhance the entrance to homes, or patios and pathways distinct to each project, have been foundational in a DeKorte’s landscape. Pools, hot tubs and water features are family favourites in Niagara. Eye-catching gardens which could include a retaining wall or armour stone rock wall that complements Niagara's characteristic terrain, are often found in a DeKorte’s landscape. Additionally, their vision of decks, railings, fences and privacy screens provide beauty as well as optimal structure and safety.

Eric further adds “People want spaces designed for family gatherings and hosting social events. And so, there’s a space designed for dining, a space for sitting around a campfire, and a space for raised garden beds to grow fresh veggies and herbs.” “I hear this all the time. Customers want a design that requires minimal maintenance, yet they want to have lush gardens and beautiful flowers. They just don’t have time to maintain the landscapes or are concerned that the installed landscape will lose its effect if not maintained properly.” continues Eric.

To address the needs of such clientele, DeKorte’s Landscaping Ltd. also operates the DeKorte’s Maintenance Group with partner Dan Burke. This area of the business focuses on the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of landscaping installations across Niagara. “We have a whole team of people who maintain gardens, service lawns, provide snow removal and Christmas light installation. Any yard that requires spring and fall clean up, monthly weeding, mulching, and other landscaping maintenance is done by this team.”

Reaching this 40th anniversary milestone has given the entire DeKorte family time to reflect on their success over the years as they strive to continue the legacy built by their father, Jack. Both Eric and Jack Jr. are thankful for all the clients who have trusted the company to enhance their homes with a DeKorte Landscape. They are also appreciative of the vendors who continually strive to provide them with the latest and best products for their customers. Looking forward, Eric says he and his brother are committed to maintaining the relationships that have been instrumental to their success.

“We’ve been here for 40 years. Lord willing, the DeKorte family would like to continue to create landscapes inspired by our clients’ lifestyles. One of the main positives of running this business has been the relationships we’ve developed. If I look back on the 40 years of customers our father worked with, we now have the privilege of working with the second and third generation. It is such an amazing testament to the reliability, quality, service, and trust we have formed over all these years with the Niagara community.”

Looking ahead into 2025, Dekorte’s Landscaping wishes the greater Niagara Community a Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year celebrated with family and friends.
