View from the Couch: A review of Damned

'Damned' ran on Britain's Channel 4 for two season, 12 full episodes, from 2016 to 2018 and is available to watch on the Britbox streaming service

Jo Brand (far right) and Alan Davies (far left) and other cast members of 'Damned', reviewed this week by Donald Combe.

Alan Davies and Jo Brand star in Damned (Britbox series, 2016 - 2018), which focuses on the efforts of overworked social workers at a Children’s Services agency somewhere in Britain. While billed as a comedy due to the many humorous predicaments these workers find themselves in, the episodes are probably quite near reality. I found myself getting deeply involved in the lives of the social workers and their unfortunate clients. It seems all of their lives were pretty desperate, but they survived aided by genuine caring and genuine humour.
